The Annexation of the Party of Nicoya to Costa Rica
Every 25th of July, 200 years ago, we celebrate the annexation of the Nicoya Party to the country!
is a historic event that refers to the incorporation of the territory of the Nicoya Party to the State of Costa Rica, which occurred on July 25, 1824.
Each year, at St Johns, we keep the cultural heritage of the Nicoya Party alive by starting the day with a traditional shared breakfast. Then, in a civic act where we talked about the celebration, the theater workshop presented the Legend of Indalecio: the boy who saved Guanacaste from the drought and of course there were dances and bombs.
This celebration is ideal to reinforce messages, key values and strengthen the sense of common identity, and also helps us build and give meaning to our history as individuals and as a society.
Happy Annexation Day!
